I love working with inspired game changers around our planet - you inspire me to tears. Hard Core Activists, while I love you dearly, you seriously give me migraine headaches.
The great news... Hard Core Activists can become Inspired Game Changers. I know it is possible because I made the transformation myself and we've helped thousands of others on the journey from Change Brawler to Game Changer. It comes down to choice points.
#1: Rant About Problems vs. Creating Solutions:
Hard Core Activists rant about problems, but have little interest In working together to create joint solutions. The harsh reality - ranting about problems is easy. Ranting and then refusing to work on creating joint solutions crosses over into cowardice and laziness.
Inspired Game Changers highlight problems and help find joint solutions. You know that identifying a problem is just the first step in transformation. The hard work is bringing together people from opposing viewpoints to create joint solutions. This the realm of the brave, the heroes, and the culturally adept.
#2: Fight, Polarize, and Divide versus Collaborate, Co-Create, and Unite:
Hard Core Activists polarize, divide, and demonize around a fixed agenda. "Our way or the highway." "You are either with us (good) or against us (evil)." Sound familiar? Someone, or some group, always has to be the enemy. The typical emotions and behaviors deployed (consciously, unconsciously, and subconsciously) are fight, accuse, bully, hate, anger, condemnation, and intolerance of those who don't agree with you. Activists are frequently on the attack.
Inspired Game Changers collaborate, co-create, and unite to find a new path forward. Game Changers unite people with opposing viewpoints to find bigger and better solutions than any one party came to the table with. The typical emotions and behaviors deployed (consciously, unconsciously, and subconsciously) are respect, deep listening, kindness, compassion, forgiveness, fun, laughter, hope, optimism, and tolerance for all - especially for those who disagree with you.
#3: Rigid Mindsets vs. Open Mindsets:
Hard Core Activists have rigid mindsets and are "always right" - even when they aren't. If someone doesn't understand and agree with an Activist's position, they are either a moron, the enemy, or both. Activists physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually shut down (or shout down) any conversation that goes against their stated views. They simply refuse to listen to alternative viewpoints - collaboration and compromise are out of the question.
Inspired Game Changers have open-minds and open-hearts. A Game Changer's universe is about learning & serving. You foster and enable dialogue with people from very different backgrounds and viewpoints. You are always looking for the bigger picture, the bigger vision, and the bigger solution. You love when people disagree with you, so you can learn from their perspective.
Hard Core Activists divide and polarize in a downward spiral of "us versus them" despair. Inspired Game Changers create new paths forward for humanity and the planet. I know who I want to party with.
Making the shift from Hard Core Activist to Inspired Game Changer...
The key is learning to open your heart, open your mind, and open your ears to alternative viewpoints - and then help create solutions with people you may fundamentally disagree with. I know, easier said than done, but it is a journey worth taking - if for no other reason, for the future of humanity and the planet.
